4th Grade Curriculum Extension Units (CEU)
Selected students will participate in one or both of the two CEUs this school year. In order for your child to participate in a CEU, he/she will complete a writing sample after a short lesson. If your child completes the task and meets the requirements, he/she will be invited to join the unit. Your child classroom teacher's input is also used to decide if he/she will be able to meet the needs of the CEU as well as the class the class they may be missing. If you are interested in your child being involved in a CEU for your child's grade level, please contact your child's teacher or the G/T teachers.
Ancient Civilizations
What causes great civilizations to rise and fall? This question has undoubtedly haunted historians for centuries. Throughout this unit, students attempt to answer this question as they study great civilizations that met with success and others with failure. Students explore the culture of ancient Egypt together and move on to conduct independent research on ancient civilizations that spanned the globe.

Our Place in Space
This curriculum extension unit focused on
man’s changing views of space over time and how these changes affected our
exploration of space. The first
section of the unit reviewed early man’s attempts to explain natural phenomena
in space through mythological tales.
The middle section of the unit explored science fiction literature
related to space travel. Finally,
students compared examples of science fiction events and materials to current
space fact and accomplishments in America’s space program.
